Getafe 0-2 Atletico Madrid:Llorente and Partey secure comfortable win for Simeone's men

Marcos Llorente and Thomas Partey gave Atletico Madrid a comfortable 2-0 win at Getafe on Thursday to keep Diego Simeone's team on course for a third place finish in Laliga Santander.

Getafe were wasteful in the first half and those misses came back to haunt them as Marcos Llorente scored eight minutes after the break from 20 yards out.

Partey added a second goal when he tapped in from close range after a counter attack with 10 minutes left to play.

Getafe had Allan Nyon sent off late for a high challenge as the deafeat dented their chances of securing an Europa League place.

With an entirely new back four, Atleti's defence looked vulnerable and they were lucky not to be behind after an impressive Getafe first half display.

Jaime Mata had three good chances in quick succession early on as he lifted a shot over the bar, saw an effort hooked off the line by Felipe and miscued a close range shot.

Atleti's best opportunity of the first half as he got on the end of Llorente's cross, but the striker could only guide his header over the crossbar.

The same combination linked up again three minutes into the second half but Costa again failed to hit the target from a central position following Llorente's cut back.

Llorente took matters into his own hands as he turned Getafe's David Timor on the edge of the box then wrong footed David Soria with a low shot into the corner.

Partey made sure of the points when he guided the ball home after a quick counter attack, and then Allan Nyom was sent off in stoppage time for the hosts.

What's next?
Atletico host Real Sociedad on Sunday, while Getafe travel to Levante in Gameweek 38.
