Manchester City 5-0 Newcastle United: Guardiola's men bounce back from demoralising Loss at Southampton

The Citizens bounced back from their loss to the Saints at the weekend with a routine 5-0 win against Newcastle United.

City's loss against Southampton was their 9th loss of the season and it left them 23 points behind champions Liverpool.

City took the lead in the 10th minute, as Jesus finished from Silva's cut back after some poor marking from the Magpies.

The visitors couldn't handle city's high pressure and they lost the ball 35 yards out, with De Bruyne finding Mahrez who duely netted his 10th goal of the Premier League season.

The goal meant that City became the first team to have five players hit 10 goals or more in a single Premier League season.

Foden missed a gloriois chance to score after the break but City's third goal came when Matt Richie kick the ball off Fernandez while trying to stop Jesus.

Silva got a well deserved goal as he netted a precise free kick from 25 yards out, before the Spaniard's set up Raheem Sterling for their fifth after intercepting a pass.

What does it mean? City consolidate second... and wonder why

City's latest goalscoring record
took them to 86 league goals this season, but did little more than make finishing second almost certain.

It was a first league loss for Steve Bruce's men since February 22, keeping them six points outside of the top eight but importantly 16 points above the drop zone.

Silva still shining as City clock winds down

Silva reached 10 assists in all competitions and scored a sublime goal to cap a very creative performance. Surprisingly,it was the first time that he had scored and set up a goal in a league match since January 2016.

He has just two more home league games to come as a City player. It is a shame that they will be held without the crowd ovation he deserves.

What's next?

City head to the Amex Stadium next to face Brighton and Hove Albion, while Newcastle face Watford on the same day.
