Manchester United 2-2 Southampton: United blow chance to move up to 3rd in the Premier League table

Manchester United missed the chance to move into the top four after a 2-2 draw at home against Southampton.

Southampton took the lead through Stuart Armstrong as he was found by Nathan Redmond after Paul Pogba was robbed of the ball.

Manchester United came back charging as they put the ball in the back of the net but the goal didn't stand as Rashford was flagged offside by the referee.

But they eventually drew level when after a brilliant Paul Pogba cross, Anthony Martial held off the defence and as he was falling found Rashford with his right foot, and the England international coolly converted with his left foot.

Anthony Martial's fine form since the restart continued as the Red Devils worked the ball outta the back to Bruno Fernandes who found Martial as he cut in on his right men foot and he found the top left corner to give them the lead.

Manchester United were denied by Alex McCarthy as he saved from Paul Pogba's shot. Manchester United had more chances to seal the deal game but after Kyle Walker-Pieters incredibly blocked Marcus Rashford's goal bound effort from a move that he started.

Anthony Martial should have scored when after he robbed Jack Stephens of the ball, he made a furry into Southampton's box but tried to be too precise as he attempted to bend the ball into the top right hand corner.

However, Michael Obafemi scored in the 96th minute as he claimed a 2-2 draw for Ralph Hassenhuttl side .

The attacker converting almost on the line after Jan Bednarek nodded on a wonderful James Ward-Prowse corner kick.

What's next?
Manchester United next travel to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace, while Southampton host Brighton at St Mary's.
